According to ABC 7 Chicago, witnesses allege that a motorcycle was blasting through city streets at speeds around 100MPH when the ride came to a sudden stop. The motorcyclist slammed into an SUV so hard that it tipped over. A passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. On the motorcycle were 2 males, and they were also pronounced dead at the scene.
There was a survivor who is now in critical condition. A woman who is now at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Incidence of Motorcycle Accident Fatalities
In 2018 alone, nearly 5000 riders died in motorcycle accidents. Fatalities involving motorcyclists occur 28 times more often than accidents involving passenger vehicles.
Motorcycles are more likely to be struck by drivers than other passenger vehicles due to their low profiles. Additionally, a phenomenon, known as intentional blindness, where drivers are subconsciously only looking for other cars. When a non-car is in their path, the brain doesn’t immediately register its presence.
